Is Nursing for you?: 3 First Steps Toward a Rewarding Career

Nursing can be your ticket to financial success and personal satisfaction. As a student of human behavioral biology, I’m always looking for ways to turn my passion to understand us (me) into something useful and profitable.  Two recent articles make nursing seem a near-ideal mix of greed and goodness.

Liz Freeman‘s article in the Naples Daily News says Florida hospitals are scouring the country for RN’s.  In addition to 90k plus salaries, Naples hospitals are offering signing bonuses of $2,500 to $15,000 and relocation allowances of $1000 to $10,000.

Andy Rutherford writes in the South Wales Argus of Wales “Nurse of the Year” who says what all lovers of their work say, “It doesn’t feel like a job.”

  • MOOC your mind – Massively Open Online Courses are a great (and free!) way to test the waters of your medical interests.
  • Talk the Walkers – Go to a hospital, talk to nurses in the trenches and get a sense of the nursing experience.
  • Volunteer Dear – Give some time, a few hours a month, caring for young, old, sick, dying, people near you.

At the end of this sentence, you can take the first step toward your dream career!
